The history of our Terroir and our Marshes ...

Séparateur Arabesque couleur Or
      A 1000 year-old know-how, a preserved place

For nearly a thousand years, the Salt Marshes of the Pays Blanc® have been sculpted by human hands, according to the winds and the sun. Le Paludier, guardian of this natural treasure, perpetuates the ancestral knowledge of the Benedictine monks who dug the first carnations. It is thanks to this preserved nature that Gray Salt and Salt's Flower from Pays Blanc® offer you the richness of their taste as well as all the mineral properties of the ocean and the clay in which they are born. Harvested and packaged entirely by hand, Gray Salt and Salt's Flower from Pays Blanc® are 100% natural and free from chemical additives. You will be able to taste the iodized flavor and the crunch of wild Salicornia, picked by hand at the end of spring. All the products of the Marais offered are handcrafted from entirely natural raw materials.

Mesquer is part of the Pays Blanc, canton of Guérande, which covers 2,000 hectares between the municipalities of Le Croisic, Batz-sur-Mer and Asserac, dotted here and there with small salt-producing villages. The Traict du Croisic and the Traict du Mès are the only communication links between the marshes and the ocean and constantly supply the marshes with salt water.

The Breton name of the city, Gwenrann, means "White Country", undoubtedly in reference to the exploitation of salt which made the reputation of the city.

Today, 380 salt workers harvest 16,000 tonnes of salt per year in the salt marshes of the Pays Blanc basin and we are very proud to continue this tradition and this know-how.
